South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC) organized one of the first International Internet competitions in the world.
THE COMPETITION
Entrants were required to design and build a homepage for the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC).
The homepage should cover no more than three 800 x 600 computer screens reached by scrolling down the screen and/or by direct link. The homepage constructed by entrants by using the English language must be hosted by the entrant or with their ISP (or other location of the entrant’s choice).
The winning SEARCC homepage best addresses the following brief:
- Visitors to the SEARCC homepage have a wide range of computer power, ranging from low memory, slow processing pcs using a text only browser to a very fast processing pc with high RAM and graphics browsers.
- SEARCC intends to use its web presence;
a. to promote SEARCC and its ideals,
b. to distribute discussion papers to SEARCC members,
c. to promote the annual SEARCC conference, trade show and competitions,
d. to distribute information to Executive committee information as a closed group, and
e. to run closed chat session for members of the Executive committee.
Additionally the entrants were sent with two sets of questions to be answered.
CONTESTANTS
This competition was open to all people as it’s an international competition. For residents of the following member, associate and observer countries of the South East Asia Regional Computer Federation, competition entries were processed by the national computer society of the country. Residents of ‘other countries’ were processed in the Northern Territory of Australia.

The International Internet Competition was conducted once in 1998 in Darwin hosted by The Australian Computer Society.
