Creating Viable ICT Societies Workshop
Mumbai – DECEMBER 2011
The “Creating Viable ICT Societies Workshop” is designed specifically for ICT Societies in the Asia Pacific region. It will take place during the SEARCC 2011 conference, www.searcc-2011.org, Collaboration for inclusive Growth which will take place on 12-13 December 2011 at the, Hotel Intercontinental – the Lalit, Mumbai.
As technology becomes ever more entrenched in our modern lifestyle, enabling every aspect of commerce, government, education, communications and entertainment, the ICT sector will play an increasingly important role. National ICT Societies around the world continue to face increased challenges to be relevant to its diverse and changing membership.
Solutions to these challenges can be found by collaborating and learning from each other and actively looking for opportunities for sharing best practices. The Creating Viable ICT Societies Workshop will provide the initial platform for selected ICT Societies from around the Asia Pacific region to share ideas, learn from each other and jointly consider options for dealing with future challenges.

As this forum is for selected National ICT Society Presidents or the President’s nominee, it offers a unique and valuable opportunity to share perspectives on ICT Society matters not often addressed at other forum.
The main objective of the half day workshop will be to better understand the challenges faced by ICT Societies and how IFIP and SEARCC could work together to create viable and strong ICT Societies in the Asia Pacific region.
Discussions will include Perspectives on the Future, ICT Society challenges, Best Practise, ICT Professionalism, Tools for ICT Societies – just to name a few. These topics and others will be discussed throughout the workshop along with views on the way forward. We would be happy to consider any ideas you may have to contribute to the workshop program.
The outcomes of this workshop and the outcomes from the Ministerial Forum from the WITFOR (www.witfor.org) in April 2012 are expected to feed in to a larger workshop planned for late 2012 to share better practices in creating viable societies.
IFIP and SEARCC will reimburse the cost of return economy class Air Ticket and accommodation in Mumbai. We will also provide registration to SEARCC 2011 Conference.
The workshop will also provide a valuable opportunity to interact and network with peers and to share perspectives on ICT Society matters..
Participation in this important workshop will enable further development friendly and productive relationships to promote ICT in the Asia Pacific region.
